Been talking about this in the Oled section. Might offer near Oled black levels with the possibility of higher brightness levels...and no risks of BI. Could be a winning formula. Will have to wait and see...

The 1080 panel still has a lot of blooming and will drop the overall light level a bit so it won't be as good as OLED and will need a bright backlight. A blooming 1080 backlight is not going to have near the pixel control of a 4k pixel controlled panel. It will probably still be quite good and plenty enough for someone like me depending on other aspects like scaling, motion and processing.

Still better than Samsung’s Q8FN and it’s 40 Zones which everyone raves about.
Hisense or TCL give me 1,000 dimming zones 4K 120Hz Quantum Dots HDMI 2.1 Athens next year.

Yeah, Panasonic introduced this technology a couple of years ago. There are a few threads on AVS discussing it.

http://01966633.com/forum/166-l...oled-talk.html
http://01966633.com/forum/166-l...1000-nits.html

The panel is currently used in professional mastering monitors (Eizo CG3145, FSI XM311K, Postium OBM-X310) There is speculation that Sony's BVM-X310 uses the same technology and is replacing the renowned BVM-X300 V2 OLED mastering monitor.

Here's another video on the Hisense. It'll be great if Hisense can bring this to market at a reasonable price.

i think the whole thing went over your head. watch it again, the blooming was intentionally there, for comparison.

The other tv looks like it's using a different reflector. Looks kinda matte0ish but when linus hand was close it was very reflecting.

Also some weird gradation at 1:58.
Blacks look a bit elevated on the new panel at 1:58.

Might just be effect of the new backlight and their camera though. Might look much better in real life.

Well sure but that wasn't the point. Hot backlight with a black and white back screen sounds interesting. The reviewer is also mistaken in calling the back screen grayscale. It's not producing any gray as that would be inappropriate for a backlight. Just better defined full lit areas. Amplitude in lit areas will still be controlled from the front panel so contrast in lit areas areas is still dependant on the front panel contrast. Blooming should be well controlled.

In the one scene where they show the backlighting simulation how do you know the demo was more than one LCD stacked? Seems they had one screen which represented backlighting that played all the time. My guess is it's just one panel.

I didn't see any blooming in the actual product as you depict, only camera issues. Assuming it makes it to the states we'll see then.

Linus also says he can't even see anything with his hands cupped around the screen. So he was checking for bleeding and MLL. Won't really know more until someone gets a panel to evaluate.
