I seem to recall you had been writing some automation sw. I’ve thought about doing that but I’m trying simple control and it’s pretty cool if you’re iOS. I like the idea of the project but it’s also nice to have it be a lot easier and be able to control lights garage etc with very little effort plus Alexa integration. Anyway not to ramble just saw your cameras and made me think of it. Resume previously scheduled world domination

That was for my 400ampere power-relay project. The software of which I finished a basic version of 4 years ago. The hardware is still sitting here half done, waiting for me to buy 8 FP amps.

Before you think too hard:

It's a real problem; or in our case, a real solution.

If you have nothing to hide that is ok with us too, we'll just plant something on your computer prior to your arrest.

If your face isn't yet on a no-fly list, that can be fixed.

I used to think like that but now that I’m in my forties I realized they would have come for me by now if they were going to. If they raided my place they’d end up falling asleep.

If you think home automation is fun. Try talking next to your Smart phone about products you don't need or have never searched for and watch your ad's on webpages you visit during the week. This week was Cascade dishwasher packs, I don't use my dishwasher. 🤔 I used to think it was coincidence, it is not. Try it sometime it's a fun game.

You can go into the settings of the device and turn off the ordering feature. First thing I did on the Alexa.

Looks like FedEx didn't make it, as I expected.
Looks like tomorrow afternoon.

Google and whatnot tends to show ad's based on your IP.
If anyone in your house (or visitor) has EVER searched for dishwasher packs using any computer/tablet/phone connected to your modem, at any time, ever. Then they got ya.

If you were on LTE but with WiFi disabled, and you said something, and then it showed up, then that would be scary. (Try it and see.)

I went through all the apps and app-permissions on my phone and disabled every option that it shouldn't have access to.
Especially contact list, mic and cam.
There are even apps that will help you block permissions if your phone doesn't have that feature easily accessible.
I also keep Bluetooth, WiFi and LTE disabled until I need it, and disable it as soon as I'm done. That way it can't connect to the internet, but I can still do texts and phone calls with it.

But yeah, computers NEVER forget. They are more-than capable of remembering every word on every page you've ever visited, or every word you've typed,
or every face you've ever taken a photo of, or voice, or every song/video or word spoken near it.

Computers are also capable of making associations, so if all your twitter and facebook friends are searching for dishwasher packs, then they could display some to you as well. That's well within a computer's capability since at least the 70's; it's just that they haven't started to use that stuff for marketing until 05-ish.

They never sleep. All it takes is once. (I guess I will have to enjoy dishwasher pack ad's now too since I'm currently signed into google and near my phone, and read it / typed it! haha )

Once Siri, Cortana, Google, Samsung/LG TV or Alexa grows opposable thumbs, we're all toast!
Asimo is your best friend... to the end!

That'll buff out.

On a more serious note, the deer in the Pacific Northwest are no joke. Crazy mule deer - they look to be twice the size of the white tail we see on the east side of the country. And the mule deer are the least of your worries.... Elk and Moose wander around the Spokane area. Ask me how I know - I smacked a moose a few years ago near Spokane, WA. It was like seeing and swerving to miss a horse!

An adult male moose and bigfoot is way bigger than a horse!
Like a giant horse with a truck snow blade on it's head!!!

My dad used to take me hunting, and in all those years I only ever saw: 2 bear, 1 cougar, and LOTS of deer, squirrels and birds.
Never saw a bigfoot or an alien in that time (and I was trying dude... and I know 100% for-sure that my dad would have shot at either one had we.)

That was when gas was like a 1/4 of what it is today, you could spend all day driving in a dual-tank truck and go fill it up full and the cost was "no big deal".
Today, that same activity would bankrupt a person, and no meat to show for it!

He never once looked at a map or a GPS or a compass, no idea how he didn't get lost.
We would go like a hundred miles into the woods on a logging road, park on the side, and walk deep into the forest, camp and walk back the next day.
There was nobody around to come save us and this was before cellphones were a thing, only the military had sat phones, IR and night vision.

As for my truck, I won't be getting it back until February...

It has arrived!

Got AVB connected, got USB connected. Updated firmwares to latest. Need to test the 24f XLR's, Loopback SNR/THD, and then phantom power for the two mics.

Looks like both can be configured via a single USB cable when AVB is present (Excellent Smithers!)

Damn... this thing doesn't have phantom power. There goes that idea...
Guess I WILL have to buy a Motu 624 after all! It has thunderbolt and USB 3.0, which supports 128x128, but I only need 24x48, well within its limits for USB and AVB.

Anyhow... on with the loopback tests!

All 72 XLR connections/cables and all features of the 24AI and 24AO works. EXCELLENT BATMAN!

So here is the loopback chain: USB to 24AO XLR to 24AI XLR to AVB to 24AO to USB.
24AO is AVB clock master.

All channels driven simultaneously.

The 24AI is slightly more input sensitive than the 24AO. You may have to apply a negative whatever db trim if you wanted to analog bridge them (which I won't EVER be doing!)

In summary: Spectacular results!

44.1 and 192 are nearly identical, especially as far as human ears are concerned.

24/44100

24/192000

It's down 1db @ 2hz (OH NOES! hehe )

Mics are now stereophonic LCT-550's (IMO they are confirmed as: better than human hearing up to their clipping point, and to below 0db, and up to ~24khz.)

Now that I have been using balanced headphones powered by Motu for a while, I'd NEVER go back to unbalanced headphones.
Any Motu with balanced outputs will drive them perfectly IMO; this is how the HD800's are supposed to sound!

So I tested the latency. I seem to be getting 0.6ms for a single AVB hop and 1ms for a single usb hop.
(That includes delay for Windows ASIO + PC USB HW, and Motu driver + Motu FW/HW).

USB2 Loopback, is 2ms

USB3 should be even faster.

USB2 Loopback + AVB Loopback, is 3.2ms

and this ugly stack: USB2 to 24AO XLR to 24AI XLR to AVB to 24AO to USB2, is 3.6ms

If I get a Motu 624, then the actual stack will be: 24AI XLR to 624 AVB-In to USB3-Out to USB3-In to 24AO AVB-In to 24AO XLR.
So that should be roughly <2ms for the usb + windows, and 1.2ms for the AVB, plus whatever delay for the input and output devices + DSP time.
Probably looking at a good 5ms just for Motu stuff + PC stuff, and then add to that: whatever the DSP'ing time will be...

That's my best guess. You really can't make DSP'ing 72 channels of audio go any faster than that, at least with consumer-available hardware because of the number of hops involved.

192 THD for USB/AVB Loopback. (Note: The NF in this mode is negative infinity i.e. all-zeros.)

192 NF for Analog I/O + USB/AVB Loopback

-140db from 2hz to 50khz, and then it gets a bit noisy out to 100khz.

February 10th is likely when I get my truck back, but that is far too late,
I go back to work this Thursday.
I won't be back home until: unknown...
Maybe may or july, don't know...

That monkey wrench single-handedly threw a deer into my engine.
In an instant it destroyed my Christmas spirit, my time off, and all the things I had planned to get accomplished.

All I can do is limp back to work now.

Not sure what bodyshop is going to take that long to acquire parts and execute that repair, where I worked, that would be driven in the morning, and out after lunch.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.

Yeah, I wasn't going to say anything about it, but I also questioned why it was going to take so long to repair it. Looks like almost all cosmetic damage. New p-side headlight, front grill, front bumper cover, p-side foglight. Parts for an F-150 should be relatively easy to get.

However, since HzHorn is going to be out of town for a period of time, he might've told the bodyshop to take their time?

EDIT> Since you're going to be out of town, how about some more HzHorn pictures to hold us over?!

I just got an email saying my truck is done.

$11,000 worth of repairs.

New hood, grill, rad, AC unit, coolant, bumper & attachment structure, headlight assembly, windshield, wheel alignment, new front panels and a paint job.

My portion: $500

I'll be picking it up on the 2nd and heading back to work with it...

In the meantime, saving up for some FP amps (lots of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I need at least: 4 FP14k and 1 FP20k for bass, and 5 FP10k's for treble.
If the the FP20k is no good, then I'll need another 2 or 3 FP14k to replace it.
I also need a Motu 624 and a Motu AVB hub and another Motu 24AO to feed everything.
EEK!

The Behringer's, Crown's and Rotel's are all going bye-bye.

When I upgrade to an Atmos-capable processor with XLR, the Oppo105 and 3 Cleanboxes will be going bye-bye as well.
Replacing them with an Oppo 203 and a Marantz 9903 (maybe...)
At which point I'll also need a 4K Projector and Atmos ceiling speakers.
EEK!

That is the current-plan at least...

Gonna build the PC's myself. Cheaper that way...
I am worried about the PSU and heat sinks and heat pipes not mixing well together.

And the HzHorn are replacments, as the LMS-18 blew the box apart on the first attempt. I used barfnails instead of screws, that was a mistake! Never again!!!
